For nine years in the National Park Service, I worked side by side with Mormons. They were friendly, courteous, hard-working folks with nice families. [Like any people, I am sure there are exceptions that some will highlight. For myself, I am embarrassed about some folks who call themselves "Christians."] Moving back home to the farm in a non-Mormon area meant leaving those friends behind.
Deceived By A False Prophet
The videos posted here on the previous page provide empirical evidence that Joseph Smith made fraudulent claims. His 'god' is not the God of the Bible: "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, . . .That is the great secret. . . . I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil. . . " (History of the Church 6:305)
Love Your Mormon Neighbor as Yourself
Care about them. Speak the truth in love. Do not get side-tracked on weird Mormon teachings about coffee, the 'planet' Kolob, Mormon underwear, and Jesus supposedly visiting America about A.D. 34. Stick to the Christian basics about God and Christ.
Christian?
Joseph Smith said that all churches were apostate and that he had restored the true Church. Mormon President Gordon B. HInckley said of other Christians: "The Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak." (June 4, 1998)
Though Mormon teachers use the same terms as Christians, the definitions are profoundly different, e.g. for them "Scripture" includes the Bible plus the Book of Mormon, and the Book of Abraham, etc. Mormon doctrine is heresy.
That said, I do not doubt that there are some Mormons who trust in the Christ of the Bible rather than in the god of Joseph Smith. Like many everyday Christians, they simply are ignorant of what their church teaches.
